How to beat the winter blues

Posted by Leigh Vance on

During this time of year, many of us experience winter blues which can negatively impact our well-being.

Some people may notice mild changes to their energy levels, sleep and eating patterns, while others may have more severe symptoms or forms of clinical depression, such as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

What can you do to help?
One of the best ways to overcome the winter blues is to get as much sunshine as possible. Consider incorporating outdoor activities into your daily routine. Another great way is to invest in a therapy light which can be moved around your home or workplace. This will increase your level of light exposure to regulate hormones that are affected by sunlight. Other ideas include:
  • Getting more exercise
  • Listening to music
  • Sharing positive stories and laughing more
  • Reaching out to friends and family (by phone or virtually)
